Dear friends, tangueros/as:
It gives us great pleasure to present this very special edition of our festival, our XX Anniversary.
We are very proud, to be globally, the tango-dance festival with the most editions held in history. It's been 20 years of hard work, with all kinds of difficulties to overcome, but the great joy that we have got out of organizing the festival and the wonderful warmth and support that you have all shown year after year has made it more than worth it.
Words could not explain how thankful we are. We thank you for your enthusiastic presence at our Festival, without which none of this would have been possible.
Since the first edition, in the distant 1994, we have always tried to have with us the best tango dancers and teachers in the world. And today, we can honestly say that there are very few great tango dancers who have not passed through Sitges. Equally, from the beginning we have been committed to bring you live music to dance to with the best orchestras, many of them coming directly from Buenos Aires and some from various European countries. Alongside them, we have also selected several of the most renowned DJ's from various countries. We have always tried to maintain this level of quality, despite the economic difficulties of recent years known to all.
We have also proposed, since the first editions, a number of free activities, which until our Festival, have not taken place anywhere before. For example dancing tango in the sand on the beach and dancing in the street until dawn (in this case in front of the wonderful Mediterranean Sea)
And this is how the special ambience that we have shared and continue to share until now between the organizers, artists and public, also enhanced by the intrinsic magic of Sitges, was created.
In order to celebrate all these things we have prepared a very special edition in which, together with the regular festival activities (classes, milongas, shows, free activities), we will have a series of specific activities.
Among these stands out the establishment of the first world record for tango dancing on the beach in the sand (Sunday July 20) and the 20 years commemorative tribute show in which we will be joined by several of the dancers and musicians who were present in the very first edition of our festival. (Sunday July 21).
We will also hold some special seminars, given respectively by Gustavo Naveira - Giselle Anne, and Sebastián Arce - Mariana Montes, which will complement the regular classes that we offer (see )
Also, this year, we will be celebrating our anniversary with a new, spectacular venue for our milongas and shows. (). This venue permits us, for the first time in the history of the festival, to have two connected dance floors, one under the stars in the open air and another under a big canopy, with a total of 800 square metres of parquet dance floor, longer dancing hours and more conveniently located and better facilities. And, like last year, we will provide a special bus service at low cost from the centre of Sitges to the new venue of our evening activities, only 4km away.
All of these, ingredients for another unforgettable edition of our Festival.
And so, we will be waiting for you all: For those who haven't missed a single edition of our festival (yes, obviously there will be a special tribute for you too), for those who met and fell in love in Sitges, for those who deepened their passion for tango with us, for those who have helped us move forward and improve with their praise and constructive criticism and obviously also, in a special way, to those who join us for the very first time in Sitges. So, together, we will sing the very well know verse of "Volver" by Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera: "¡QUÉ VEINTE AÑOS NO ES NADA!"... TWENTY YEARS, THAT IS NOTHING!
